The sun shone brightly all day, which made up for the chilly wind.

This morning (another sunny day) we drove down the coast to Satellite Beach to the local manatee hangout. Apparently they congregate here when the water in their normal location (feeding grounds?) is cool. This is an enclosed inlet which warms up in the sun, to say nothing of the effect of over a hundred manatees in a huddle. It's right in the middle of housing, a testament to the quality of American drains and pollution control.

They mostly seem to stay in one place, coming up to breathe every few minutes. When they do move they use their front flippers to sweep water underneath them. As many as half of them had scars from boat propellers on their backs. They also had barnacles and other accretions which shoals of small fish were attending to.
