After a hard day driving and sightseeing we opted for dinner in the hotel. We had a huge restaurant to ourselves, having been checked in by an Iraqi lady receptionist (cue some words of Arabic from David).
To-day we set off for New Orleans straight after breakfast. We went via Biloxi Mississippi (a first for us both), which was in the news for having suffered from Hurricane Katrina. It looked prosperous enough and seemed to be well supplied with new casinos.

The world's biggest guitar!

Biloxi harbour. Notice the name of the boat! There were some proper boats there too.

Street musicians in the French Quarter of NO.

A typical French Quarter building.
Many of the street names are familiar from jazz such as Bourbon, Rampart and Burgundy. The French Quarter was actually built under Spanish rule. Bourbon Street is really seedy with beggars and other dodgy characters, uneven pavements and rubbish underfoot; in other words as unlike much of America as could be imagined.
We called in for a beer after our afternoon walk and got into conversation with some other tourists from elsewhere in the US. The heavens opened while we were there so we were forced into sharing another beer to give it a chance to stop.......it didn't, so we got wet anyway!
