This is the skyline of downtown New Orleans. It's quite a contrast to the French Quarter.

This is an old plantation house, now swallowed up by suburbia, although you can't tell from this shot. One man who stayed there was Jean Lafitte, a French pirate, who aided General Andrew Jackson during the battle of New Orleans in 1815. He was instrumental in helping the Americans defeat the British in what turned out to be the final battle of the War of 1812. Ha!

This is the US Coastguard keeping watch for something.

In the afternoon we rendezvoused with Michelle who got us into the National World War Two museum for nothing. It is here in honour of the local company that built all the landing craft. It is very extensive and well laid out - well worth a visit even for non-Americans.
The B-17 crashed in Greenland on the way to England and was recovered and restored.

This is a German private car pressed into Wehrmacht service during the war.

A Spitfire with invasion stripes.

A Ford-built amphibious jeep, known as the 'seep' but popular with the Russians apparently.

Quiz time! What is this?

And finally I couldn't resist sharing this photo C took as we glided along the Mississippi.
